Sunrise Farm

In April of 2012, Dr. Danner purchased Sunrise Farm, a beautiful 120-acre farm located in Belgrade, Maine. Sunrise Farm has 50 community garden plots available to the public. Each 1,000 square foot measures 25x40 ft and is located in prime Maine agricultural soil. Garden plots will be prepared in May and can be gardened until November. Additionally, there will be 25x20 ft no-till area for each gardener to use if they wish to plant perennial vegetables and fruits, heritage seed plants, two season vegetables, fall planted crops and fruit bushes. The community garden enables people without suitable land of their land to grow high-quality fruits and vegetables for themselves, their families, and their communities. Gardens provide a safe place for children to explore gardening and nature. All ages can acquire and share knowledge regarding gardening, cooking, nutrition, and health.

In April, the Trout Pond will be open to fee fishing for brook trout and salmon. $10.00 per person for two fish and $5.00 for each additional fish. Some fishing equipment is available to use but we recommend bringing your own.

In May, the roadside Farm Stand will be open for the public to buy locally-grown produce. Members of the community garden are welcome to buy and sell produce at the vegetable stand. A commercial garden plot will be maintained by Sunrise Farm employees. We will also have a pumpkin patch, a sweet corn field, and possibly a corn maze.
